Microdermabration Diamond Tips

Author : Date : 9/21/2013 3:52:17 PM

Since gaining popularity in the late 1990s, microdermabrasion has become a staple of the skin rejuvenation industry. A crystal-free method of microdermabrasion, called diamond tip, was introduced as a non-invasive, hygienic alternative to the original method. A technician removes dead skin cells by sweeping a wand encrusted with synthetic or genuine diamond chips over the surface of the skin. This encourages cell metabolism, which accelerates the growth of healthy, glowing skin.

Choose the appropriate diamond tips to be used. Tips are detachable and come varying sizes and coarseness depending on the condition and thickness of skin and the area of the body to be treated. Some machines have ten or more tips to choose from. Verify that all tips to be used in the treatment are clean and have been properly sterilized. This is especially important because using a dirty tip could expose the skin to bacteria.

Place a cotton filter in the wand according to the manufacturers instructions.
This will catch the dead skin cells and dirt, leaving behind fresh, polished skin.

Basic Technique

Attach the appropriate tip to the wand. Pull the skin taut between the thumb and the forefinger with one hand. This will allow the wand to pass over the skin with ease, making the treatment more comfortable for the client. With the other hand, touch the wand to the skin so that the entire head makes full contact. Pass over the taut skin with smooth sweeping movements, first vertically, then horizontally. Be sure to overlap, because missed areas can cause the skin to take on a streaked appearance.

Problem Areas

Pay special attention to areas that have clogged pores, such as the nose, chin and cheeks. Adjust the suction to the highest level the client's skin can tolerate. Doing so helps to dislodge the debris in the pores. Pass over these areas multiple times. The skin in this area tends to be thicker and can tolerate aggressive treatment. Change to a finer tip before beginning work around they eyes and lower the suction. Too much abrasion or suction can cause broken blood vessels in this delicate area. It is better to use low suction and multiple passes on these areas, where fine lines and wrinkles tend to appear first.

There is no crystal spray when doing diamond tip microdermabrasion, therefore a more precise treatment can be done around the eyes, nose and mouth. Lyn Ross, president of Institut DERMed, Atlanta says,"Non-particle systems that utilize diamond tip heads in a variety of grits for manual exfoliation are receiving a lot of attention. They offer a dust-free environment and, according to some, a less irritating microdermabrasion experience." Because there is no need to keep replenishing the supply of crystals, the diamond tip treatment tends to be more cost-effective as well.
